Here is the mostly finished progress of my latest sculpture. It is going to be submitted to <a href="http://richardboydpottery.com/#">Richard Boyd Pottery</a> for Creatures and Critters III. It is going to be showing this summer and the theme is equine and avian. So I may be making a bird of some sort soon as well.<br />
<br />
I hope you enjoy the progress shots of my horse, they include my uncleaned-up working space to add "charm." Well, something like that at least.<br />

Well, it's been over about, um... a *cough* year, *cough* since I started working on this bust of an old man. I've kept on meaning to put the last few touches on him for almost that whole time too, but always I have been flummoxed by my lack of a stand to put him on. The only stand I had bought was in use by my other bust, Orlina, and if I removed her from it she'd fall on, and smash her pretty face. Which just wouldn't do!<br /><br />Anyhow, long story short, I was finally able to afford the materials to make a new stand for him. Yay! Directly related to that is EVEN BETTER news for my making of art, and those of you who like to stop by and see what I've been doing lately (which I must admit, these past months, hasn't been a lot). That news is that after I wrap up my Christmas shopping I'll FINALLY be able to allocate funds to the buying of the clay, sculpting tools and armature that I am currently lacking. This is big for me, because I've realized nothing engages me like the process of sculpting, and I desperately want to get back into it. There are so many things I want to do and they're all on the backburner right now.<br />
<br />
I hope you enjoy the finished product. Now it's time to do one of the scary parts, which is baking my creation without it cracking. Wish me luck!<br />

I'm starting a long series of fantasy portraits in 5x5" squares focusing on individuality, composition and costuming. They'll be broken up with other projects, but expect to see a lot of these on my blog in the near future.</div>

Here are the first four. Enjoy!<br />

So I discovered this awesome <a href="http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php">figure drawing website</a> early last month that sets up little classes for you. What you do is select a class period from thirty minutes to six hours long and then you hit 'Get Drawing!' From there it sets up a figure class structure, cycling through stock photo albums from all over the web and giving you several gesture drawings to do before moving into longer and longer poses. Then at the end, like a real figure drawing class you get a long pose to paint. Then bam, you've completed a figure drawing class!<br /><br />These are a couple of the longer poses from the first half of last month. Enjoy!</div>

As you can see, warriors come in many shapes and sizes. There is something about warriors that inspires me, though I'm not certain what exactly that is. They appear more often than any other one thing in my drawings, and in Dungeons & Dragons I am constantly rolling up characters who live for the thrill of combat. They are so unlike me, as someone who believes that peace is the best answer. Yet something about them draws me. Perhaps it is the warriors uncompromising resolve in the face of adversity, the willingness to risk their lives for a cause or ideal. Maybe it's just the way that a warrior stands up where others can't or won't to do what needs to be done. Traits worthy of aspiring to. Whatever it is, here is a sketchdump of some warriors. I hope you enjoy them!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love drawing the characters I play in Dungeons and Dragons. It makes them that much more real to me. This is Torbrandr Agnisson, my most recent character.</div>

<span style="color: #f3f3f3; font-family: inherit;">Hello
everyone! Tomorrow is the opening of the Creatures and Critters show
at the Richard Boyd Gallery on Peaks Island, off the coast of
Portland, Maine. My jackalope and Ulia the Blind Priestess will be
exhibited alongside the works of Pam Cabanas, Judy O'Donnell,
Tina-Marie Poulin and Jean Noon; every one of us an artist based out
of Maine. There will be sculptures and paintings about animals and
our connections to them. It's going to be a great show, if you want
to find out more about it you can go to their gallery's press
release <a href="http://www.prlog.org/11892875-creatures-and-critters-multi-media-exhibit-richard-boyd-art-gallery-opens-july-22012.html">here</a>.</span></div>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #f3f3f3; font-family: inherit;">Please
come out to the island, I will be there with some of my family after
5:00pm but the gallery will be open all day and the show will be up
for the rest of the month. Here are some of the final pictures of the
jackalope. I hope you enjoy them, and maybe I'll see some of you!</span></div>

I would like to introduce you to Ulia, Priestess of the Deeps... or was that Depths? or Deep Witch? or Witch of the Sea? Well okay, her title is still in question. Either way, this is my most recent project that I intend to submit to the Richard Boyd gallery's Creatures and Critters show.</div>

I left my business card with one of the owners and was pleased to receive an email a couple days later with high compliments for the work on this blog. I was even more pleased however, to receive another email a couple weeks ago telling me about their Creatures and Critters show coming up in July, and inviting me to submit a piece for it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So after a little bit of brainstorming, and then realizing that the deadline for submissions was the 20th I decided to sculpt a jackalope. So from start to not quite finished (but totally getting there):</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW2y3iTCs3AH3iJ-uXoFguyVXJqI1d05a5FM93phjwW99s3BkqMEAkyS35BIMBtBp__bHb9_oTU_vfWbAHi5nIYlGLKBKkUL_w4EROH-c3t3j3Gud9zRi-qAqWcyy_qr3cvs-4JNwIvYk/s1600/IMG_0741.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW2y3iTCs3AH3iJ-uXoFguyVXJqI1d05a5FM93phjwW99s3BkqMEAkyS35BIMBtBp__bHb9_oTU_vfWbAHi5nIYlGLKBKkUL_w4EROH-c3t3j3Gud9zRi-qAqWcyy_qr3cvs-4JNwIvYk/s320/IMG_0741.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">First, I construct the frame which will support all the clay.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV3yhsOLv8oFTkiL2wYx8Vr9vRixfghJ071xE5K2N2fTS-bhtKfnrv8rzqXtgFLpMokOifYjTHr0R1rDT2ujF45wpYSZ4X7vLUnAoqQo9kVZyVs7avhWxyCMH3J4gCHFPk9bvPPUcHIXg/s1600/IMG_0747.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV3yhsOLv8oFTkiL2wYx8Vr9vRixfghJ071xE5K2N2fTS-bhtKfnrv8rzqXtgFLpMokOifYjTHr0R1rDT2ujF45wpYSZ4X7vLUnAoqQo9kVZyVs7avhWxyCMH3J4gCHFPk9bvPPUcHIXg/s320/IMG_0747.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Second, I pad it out a little bit with tinfoil, but not too much.</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This last Friday I went to see the opening of Heroes, and it was fantastic! It was at once hilarious, yet touching, and sometimes tragic as you got to know these French veterans of the first World War. I would like to acknowledge that the finishing touches to the sculpture were not my own. To that end, it was painted by Anita Stewart, the set designer and Portland Stage's Artistic Director, and fixed with a layer of cheesecloth and some paste-type material to preserve it by Chris Hourclé; who also created the set along with Ted Gallant and Chris Reinhardt. And the set looks awesome!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUJq6aYj2I_-wzA_ijQY-dPdoRvCncBx_QUCte2JC8pLtuo8kd5ketN2338PcTi3FkOLNBd1qQIEWLgimA0jmTQPAkX_zcPUZBz7dbrMUDAxx2ov_LlHEDcAPYxmTjlydK-UrproN3E00/s1600/IMG_0065.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUJq6aYj2I_-wzA_ijQY-dPdoRvCncBx_QUCte2JC8pLtuo8kd5ketN2338PcTi3FkOLNBd1qQIEWLgimA0jmTQPAkX_zcPUZBz7dbrMUDAxx2ov_LlHEDcAPYxmTjlydK-UrproN3E00/s400/IMG_0065.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">The first scene of the play; the quartet from left to right: </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Philippe (Philip Goodwin), Gustave (Edmond Genest), Henri (Munson Hicks) and Jacques (the dog).</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">From the moment I was brought onto this project by Andrew Harris, the Production Manager, to the end of it has been a blast. I believe I've clearly been spoiled by having <a href="http://www.portlandstage.org/index.html">Portland Stage</a> as my first client, because they were so easy to work with and encouraging every step of the way.</div><br />

<span style="text-align: left;">I was given the chance to see the play twice, the second time I was invited to go up on stage after the play for a little Q&A session with the audience. I must say, it was quite the honor and a great opportunity for myself professionally to connect a person with the work. I am happy to say that everyone involved and witnessing the play was quite pleased. I am also happy that <a href="http://jamiepeeps.blogspot.com/">Jamie Hogan</a>, who helped set me up with this opportunity was in the crowd that day.</span><br />

</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I was told that after the first preview of the play audience members were walking by the dog, who is then at the edge of the stage, and reaching out to touch it and find out what Jacques was really made of. If he was actually made of stone, this may not have mattered, but as it was they put him back on his pedestal at the end of the play for future performances.</div><br />

So last Wednesday I got a message from a professor of mine that someone had asked if she knew any sculptors. Of whom she mentioned me (if she hadn't, you wouldn't be sitting here reading these words right now). For this I give my many thanks to </span><a href="http://jamiepeeps.blogspot.com/" style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">Jamie Hogan</a><span style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">, someone who always knows how to push me to excellence.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJv08jV5AyrIxUnNpgIi-WSf1INa_8amCmnHA4NGc-Q8syC0KxwqldTAUeLT0JVm1_RJoHeBhRHuhHAhk9IaujwOLTbY8vw6uupjnsTcF_PlEm_HqV8-R2ruOl2H7y5GUhmlwXuMg0ls0/s1600/Img01.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJv08jV5AyrIxUnNpgIi-WSf1INa_8amCmnHA4NGc-Q8syC0KxwqldTAUeLT0JVm1_RJoHeBhRHuhHAhk9IaujwOLTbY8vw6uupjnsTcF_PlEm_HqV8-R2ruOl2H7y5GUhmlwXuMg0ls0/s400/Img01.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">So I got in touch with Portland Stage Company immediately and was commissioned the next day to sculpt a prop for their next play, </span><a href="http://www.portlandstage.org/Event-67.html" style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">Heroes</a><span style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">. Last Friday I got to take</span> a chainsaw to a block of Styrofoam and make a mess of their workshop. Between then and now, with various power tools, saws and files, I've been going in whenever I got the chance to chip away that block until I found that this had been in there all along. It was a unique challenge for me considering that this is the first time I've worked in Styrofoam and the largest sculpture I've ever worked on.</div><br />

I need to do a little bit of research on the best way to make tiny matching sets of earrings and a beautiful intricate necklace without driving myself too crazy. Not driving myself crazy over detail is something I'm not good at, but I hope it reflects well in the end. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

<br />
Hello everyone, this should be my only update ever with no pictures attached. I just wanted to announce that I have put together a Carbonmade portfolio, because it's all professional like. So go on and check it out, there'll be a lot of things that you can see on this blog. However, unless you've plumbed all the way back to my first post, you'll probably see some new stuff.<br />
<br />
It's a work in progress, as I work on finding my "best work."<br />
<br />
The progress on my busts has been slow due to various factors, so there are no updates today, but hopefully at the beginning of next week.MongerArthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16629242255174357484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8471202279654148958.post-60567533561416394002011-10-24T21:48:00.000-07:002011-10-25T08:00:25.541-07:00Lady Bust<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdZm_o6-hysEdg99f_ckWELhoUBiWl8-8tMIYxHJqEf-dY0-xiRU2idLiwuZffADs6ea7xntxXN04igj94ltmVUOV7f_KwIhULPfpOxnYlz9ufjn3YAvzT4lxqxnnIdzOA2UHbodRW0UI/s1600/Bust04.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdZm_o6-hysEdg99f_ckWELhoUBiWl8-8tMIYxHJqEf-dY0-xiRU2idLiwuZffADs6ea7xntxXN04igj94ltmVUOV7f_KwIhULPfpOxnYlz9ufjn3YAvzT4lxqxnnIdzOA2UHbodRW0UI/s400/Bust04.jpg" width="365" /></a></div>Here's my work in progress shot for this week. Her hair's a mess, and now that I'm looking at this photo, she may be looking a little mannish from the lips down. These things will be worked on and more.<br />
<br />
A bit more work has been done on my other sculpture but I'll be posting work completed pics when they are both done.MongerArthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16629242255174357484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8471202279654148958.post-32695748470716677792011-10-15T22:06:00.000-07:002011-10-15T22:06:05.126-07:00Busty<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgtvrLr2jOPmrNkL9uZjYvq-0wGdo7NM91lHjwBMeeUxFcCbhyphenhypheniyfb4HUfobzzA3oXXx59lpdD95kOthPHBaIJdn_RALGhyphenhyphenhqECuH362zNeShyphenhyphenoiKoWZ8jFVUhpkvJw9_I2J5fIiteQKg/s1600/bust01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgtvrLr2jOPmrNkL9uZjYvq-0wGdo7NM91lHjwBMeeUxFcCbhyphenhypheniyfb4HUfobzzA3oXXx59lpdD95kOthPHBaIJdn_RALGhyphenhyphenhqECuH362zNeShyphenhyphenoiKoWZ8jFVUhpkvJw9_I2J5fIiteQKg/s400/bust01.jpg" width="277" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitMlDKq7zDkLvt5c2ctshv1eBObQQArR2lk1CM2ASrzulsIPxkn5ZebnkvJcZBCDeAXgTKhWIYfouJ9H4s6JvlJDAaQJhs_yuGtiTzylOJAHaht3_a-E0lKoNJogwM_qcX6SitusO5C08/s1600/bust02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitMlDKq7zDkLvt5c2ctshv1eBObQQArR2lk1CM2ASrzulsIPxkn5ZebnkvJcZBCDeAXgTKhWIYfouJ9H4s6JvlJDAaQJhs_yuGtiTzylOJAHaht3_a-E0lKoNJogwM_qcX6SitusO5C08/s400/bust02.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIA22ixCiYAUqjYrulEqST1fi_VJtl6txT9Hj9REgtslmcuwkDgBn2GhSnm_shfaC0o5SqIG0h1iR9keRw2q67LtT5vFZ9jw7_VfBceqAtSGVBTDteM4JbXKTxHF7h49Bdc2jqoqwzQVY/s1600/bust03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIA22ixCiYAUqjYrulEqST1fi_VJtl6txT9Hj9REgtslmcuwkDgBn2GhSnm_shfaC0o5SqIG0h1iR9keRw2q67LtT5vFZ9jw7_VfBceqAtSGVBTDteM4JbXKTxHF7h49Bdc2jqoqwzQVY/s400/bust03.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>Hello, still not doing as much of that regular updating thing as I've been intending to do. Thank you for stopping by, and as always, I hope you enjoy the pictures!MongerArthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16629242255174357484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8471202279654148958.post-84406425678662108912011-09-12T08:43:00.000-07:002011-12-30T19:01:36.245-08:00Digital SketchbooksIn an effort to expand into the community a little bit, I have spent this week updating an online sketchbook at CGHub.com. This is a great place where I go to be inspired by the work of professionals and students alike. I'm a bit shy to start really commenting on other people's sketchbooks, but eventually, the better I get to know people there, the more we can share critiques and advice.<br />
<br />
What I've emphasized this week in my sketching is that a return to the basics can always do you some good. Especially after a drawn out break like the one I just took. Not only is it good practice to warm back up again, but even more importantly is the emphasis on things that I may have missed the last I did a study on the basics, and may not have been practicing in my most recent artwork.<br />
<br />
If you're interested, this is a link to my <a href="http://cghub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7797">sketchbook</a>.<br />
<br />
Also, I don't like posting here without something to show, so this is a page of studies based on the figures within Andrew Loomis' book, "Figure Drawing For All Its Worth."<br />

I place the choice at your fingertips.<br />
<br />
Last time I posted, my claim to have returned to the world of art making appears to have been a little bit of a fake out. So I decided that next time I wanted to be sure that I'd been drawing again for more than a few days before announcing the end of my post-Senior year hiatus. So, I believe that this is it, sick of working my dead end cashier job, I feel I ought to get back into my portfolio in earnest.<br />
<br />
Firstly, because I'd be doing myself a great disservice if I didn't do some refresher exercises I set into a project I'd been meaning to do for some time. So I set out to practice drawing my faces, and I've drawn a bunch this past week, of which I will present a few here. To give the project a touch of inspiration for myself, I decided to theme each set of portraits as groups of people you'd meet in the world of Garda. I would like to note however, that a great deal has changed these last few months, as I've also been rewriting the history of Garda and the nature of her people. So names of people and places that are familiar from previous posts may mean something new now. Nothing will be revealed until things are more definite, but if I'm successful as an artist you may be able to glean some things from the portraits.<br />

I know, I know, not very professional of me at all. Riding on my post-graduation enthusiasm only made me feel good for so long, because then it was back to my day job, because I need to pay rent.<br />
<br />
All that aside, I have to find new projects to work on. Opportunities to get in touch with the people I need to know have been presented, and I would be fool to not take them. Plus, a friend has urged me to apply to Dreamworks. You know, a real company that does stuff and people have heard about. Scary for a newbie out of college like me! However, what do I have to lose, at the very least I can send them my portfolio. So this is the thought that is giving me focus, to create the most badass concept art portfolio I can, and I'm starting now! Okay, that's a lie, but in a good way. I've already started.<br />
<br />
Lastly however, I never posted the finished works of my character designs from way back when. This is about to be rectified:<br />

I was only able to be there for a short amount but that time was great. I got to stand by talking to friends and professors while people leaned over to ask, "Are you the artist?" My answers were mostly shy and nervous and deferential to any praise, which I was happy to receive. This also wraps up a good six years of college, and a very informative two and a half years at MECA, where I learned that drive, and creating "prolific" amount of artwork are the best tools to becoming a better artist (go figure). I'm not really contemplating the next step yet, but you will be seeing more art from me all the time (except when I'm away for Army stuff). Who knows, perhaps in the absence of school I'll even develop a logic to my posting schedule.<br />

As my crude subtitle would suggest this is meant to chronicle my journey from being the slacker of an artist and person I used to be to becoming... something more. It's a journey that is still in the making, and it involves long days with a pencil or a stylus but is more rewarding than any other thing I've set myself to in the past. Soon I am wrapping up a phase of my life that has lasted a long time, preparing to graduate from the Maine College of Art. Wrapping up with my thesis work has kept me from posting as much as I otherwise might like to and I still have a bit to do, but I thought it might be cool to share the evolution of my most recent piece from thumbnail to final.<br />
<br />
So here it is, feel free to skip the words and just look at the pictures:<br />
<br />
The first is one of about 10 to 12 thumbnail sketches I did, it wasn't my favorite but my independent study mentor saw promise in it so I went on to develop it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWEj2l6n0eImI8kMMEgXu9X9TeVtmH6VnH3wCld4YyWmlgVa_iSuB5mQdrr2smAq9POiHethjaGGCwd_Y_XagKVSSRXm7MoOHkohIH8Fh22jFVitoyq3mgKmb147rkLvLz7EnQefUJh_w/s1600/GiantThumb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="198" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWEj2l6n0eImI8kMMEgXu9X9TeVtmH6VnH3wCld4YyWmlgVa_iSuB5mQdrr2smAq9POiHethjaGGCwd_Y_XagKVSSRXm7MoOHkohIH8Fh22jFVitoyq3mgKmb147rkLvLz7EnQefUJh_w/s320/GiantThumb.jpg" width="320" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> I had to turn out a full illustration from this point in two weeks, which is a tight deadline for me. Perfect in that I need to speed up my process though. So I went straight to the computer and started to change around the composition in order to get something more dynamic.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfNT7gscOX0wujT5PDDszndEQZkPlkEYndCMSGTbA5trYkZ-n8_dXPov2De2zKfjoxWmHsyvyaCmZ7GsaESTLP_w2bJFvMYJKRd5-kStSz3bZFyDWpJfujT1NbCMcnoE-HucSaBsFkBDI/s1600/GiantThumb2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="198" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfNT7gscOX0wujT5PDDszndEQZkPlkEYndCMSGTbA5trYkZ-n8_dXPov2De2zKfjoxWmHsyvyaCmZ7GsaESTLP_w2bJFvMYJKRd5-kStSz3bZFyDWpJfujT1NbCMcnoE-HucSaBsFkBDI/s320/GiantThumb2.jpg" width="320" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> I decided the direction was promising but I wasn't convinced about the perspective or my giant's (whom you may recognize from previous posts) intention to harm these little barbarian spearmen. So after a bunch more sketching frustration I ended up with this sketch. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit3HoDvWxDnFUrsedkvljJywLEmV40lskdSJd9cAlv54IKrRRfVNqhgajtRhJmRgaekxNfIDP2WTpr6f0cBrCrqLN-qFK5MZnk6ccaqOljHSTvpGjthZeuMx6KSsLScKakOV9kuwQU-60/s1600/GiantThumb3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="198" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit3HoDvWxDnFUrsedkvljJywLEmV40lskdSJd9cAlv54IKrRRfVNqhgajtRhJmRgaekxNfIDP2WTpr6f0cBrCrqLN-qFK5MZnk6ccaqOljHSTvpGjthZeuMx6KSsLScKakOV9kuwQU-60/s320/GiantThumb3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"> So this is where I am at now, with a fur coat type thing added in I believe I hit the mark a lot closer to what I was trying to achieve than I would've not all that long ago, and in a shorter time frame. My next lesson though? It's time to learn to render in Photoshop from life, something I haven't given myself a great chance to do and something that ought to make the below image achieve something far greater than it is now, so that I can spend more time worrying about what's being said than trying to get metal to read as metal.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKMbXN55wfnePYLbSY_VRgOPtCoVatPoj39T1AziveorHYhEeUko_X-SSwdaorSTUF7cY3k2ZWCWtU3M3gXNAAIoiEfc7zpB_VfxjnuYrf6UtKjvprCrbSje3at8KcZ5ZPrIuynDNDV60/s1600/GiantFinish.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="245" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKMbXN55wfnePYLbSY_VRgOPtCoVatPoj39T1AziveorHYhEeUko_X-SSwdaorSTUF7cY3k2ZWCWtU3M3gXNAAIoiEfc7zpB_VfxjnuYrf6UtKjvprCrbSje3at8KcZ5ZPrIuynDNDV60/s400/GiantFinish.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>MongerArthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16629242255174357484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8471202279654148958.post-86473208996410503472011-04-15T20:53:00.000-07:002011-04-16T11:03:12.269-07:00It's all about the detail shots!Here's a bunch of pics of a just next to finished sculpt of my little giant.<br />

The last one is a scale shot for all you D&D nerds like myself. I believe that this guy falls into the colossal category on the play mat. <br />

I kinda hope this isn't one of those but I strongly suspect it is... either way I'm pretty certain this awesome metal hand doesn't go with the rest of the sculpture.<br />
<br />
A few hours ago it looked like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipW8xUgbIqrmmDlxgWn0WCuLtoTjp1cU0NrTSIsTWBgzL0KSpOAM9edF0yB5XH1gCQdyM52JL_rghNc6e0TCi3i3mUVgcPHWRSm1I0Z9TKwwgRn3VVBjnyY0tVQyL9-7ZyKmBUarwNHcQ/s1600/IMG_0612.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipW8xUgbIqrmmDlxgWn0WCuLtoTjp1cU0NrTSIsTWBgzL0KSpOAM9edF0yB5XH1gCQdyM52JL_rghNc6e0TCi3i3mUVgcPHWRSm1I0Z9TKwwgRn3VVBjnyY0tVQyL9-7ZyKmBUarwNHcQ/s400/IMG_0612.JPG" width="400" /> </a> </div><br />
Now it looks like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4hSUkY2McG72ihOXGaGuq3SPWavkGHUtQ6xirc56clWGfMoaScfL5U2TirwSPlIN1ZqAilzzUdMAxvHoSe8OmiY8AnsZrcVpQG6RfFtBya4MIS3pGvUEDYgZlGojtnswGeHnWI3iGz8Q/s1600/IMG_0619.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4hSUkY2McG72ihOXGaGuq3SPWavkGHUtQ6xirc56clWGfMoaScfL5U2TirwSPlIN1ZqAilzzUdMAxvHoSe8OmiY8AnsZrcVpQG6RfFtBya4MIS3pGvUEDYgZlGojtnswGeHnWI3iGz8Q/s400/IMG_0619.JPG" width="400" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It's still in need of some tender loving care to get just quite right, and hopefully by the end of all this sculpting (tomorrow perhaps!?) it'll look more awesome than his bionic hand.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
